Atherstone open day hailed a success

A great day was had by all at Atherstone Fire Station open day. People of all ages spent time talking to firefighters, making juggling balls and checking out the antique fire engine.

Those attending also saw a wide range of demonstrations including a road traffic accident and a spectacular house fire rescue. There was also a classic car and a range of fire engines. Children of all ages had fun on the bouncy castle, and the barbecue quickly had the people queing for home made burgers and tasty sausages.

Fire fighter, Sean Yeates said:
“I really enjoyed the event. We had a packed audience for our demo’s and the displays, refreshments, face painting and promotions were well received by the general public. The BBQ, Kids Korner, Ben Fund Shop, Bric-a-brac, Refreshments, Bouncy Castle and the Air Ambulance Stall did very well in raising money for our charities. We have raised approx, £1000, which will be divided between the Fire Services Benevolent Fund, Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (Princess Diana) and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
"I must extend a thank you to our Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Trevor Brice, for lending his support to the day and for the North Warwickshire Mayor, Richard Meredith, to give his time to open our day. Although we had a huge response from our local businesses in donating gifts & prizes for our Raffle, and I certainly thank them for their generosity, I must thank Aldi for providing us with a large stock of refreshments for the day and to the Sandwich Factory for providing us with a number of boxes full of sandwiches to keep the hungry stomachs at bay."
