Text ‘Student’ for Help
A new text messaging service and accompanying website are launched today by Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards Service to help students with any consumer problems they may be experiencing.
Noel Hunter, Director of Warwickshire Trading Standards said:
‘We are a universal service, providing help, advice and information to everyone, but our research clearly shows that young people and students make far less use of our services than other groups within Warwickshire.
Young people can be very vulnerable consumers, the targets of rogue traders and high pressure sales people.
This is why we are launching this new text messaging service for them today. Combined with online advice, we hope that we can encourage young people to use our services more by making best use of available new technology – the type of technology young people are very familiar with using.’
Students can text warksts (space) student (space) and their consumer complaint or enquiry to 60003 (your normal sending charges apply) for shopping and other consumer advice, or they can visit: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/studentadvice for advice and information on everything from tenancy agreements and safety in rented accommodation to consumer rights, advice on buying a second hand car, and bogus job offers.
