Stagecoach takes on local Sunday buses
Warwickshire residents will be able to enjoy a much improved Sunday bus service in the New Year, thanks to a new contract that has been awarded to Stagecoach by Warwickshire County Council.
Revised Sunday services will start on Sunday 8 January 2006 and have been expanded to reflect the increase in trading activity in town centres on Sundays.
In the Leamington and Warwick area Service 66 will operate every 30 minutes instead of hourly and the route will follow the normal daytime pattern. This means that the service will now include Whitnash and South Farm.
Service 67 to Leamington will now operate between Leamington and Stud Farm, and has been upgraded to every 30 minutes instead of hourly service. Service 68 will remain hourly and will continue to follow the existing Sunday route.
County Councillor Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “We are pleased that Stagecoach are able to provide the increased frequencies to the Sunday town bus services. More shops locally are seeing the benefits of Sunday opening and more people than ever before are going out on Sundays. Both the county council and Stagecoach recognise this which is why the bus services have been increased.”
“Johnsons did a great job for us in building up a healthy passenger base and I am sure the revised services offered by Stagecoach will help towards continuing this growth.”
