Keeping warm and saving lives
Cold weather can be deadly for many vulnerable people, and with a particularly cold winter predicted this year, Warwickshire County Council Social Services Department is working with a host of partners to save lives.
Warwick and Stratford District Councils have joined together with support from Social Services, Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, NEA Campaign for Warm Homes and the government funded Warm Front Team, to try and ensure as many people as possible in the south of the county are kept warm this winter.
Presentations are underway with the home care teams operating across the south of the county to make them aware of key issues, which could save the life of a vulnerable person.
The presentations will look at areas including fuel poverty, grants and home energy efficiency, and how to bring these crucial issues to the attention of both older people, and their carers.
Head of Adult Services John Bull said: ``This is vital work and I’m delighted to see partners working together to ensure the well being of Warwickshire residents.
``This work will have a direct impact on health, as we look at links between fuel poverty, housing and ill health, plus the dangers posed to our clients by damp and cold homes.
``If this South Warwickshire Affordable Warmth Strategy pilot is successful, the scope could be expanded to cover a number of additional service areas.’’
