Almost half a million for community thanks to County innovation

A pioneering project could spark a very happy New Year with almost half a million pounds pumped into Nuneaton and Bedworth to improve buildings, facilities and green spaces involving the voluntary sector.

Warwickshire County Council’s Nuneaton and Bedworth Area Committee has come up with an initiative where they suck in £400,000 of Landfill Tax Credits cash with an investment of just £40,000.

This money would then be used across Nuneaton and Bedworth to improve buildings and other facilities used by the voluntary sector.

Landfill Tax Credits cash is triggered when a third party invests 10-11 per cent of the total project cost.

Cllr Barry Longden, Chairman of Nuneaton and Bedworth Area Committee, said: ``By setting aside this funding we can trigger much larger resources, set aside to benefit people who live near to a landfill site, such as Judkins Quarry.

``This money would be extremely useful in helping the voluntary sector, while also extending opportunities and facilities for people living across Nuneaton and Bedworth.’’

Members of the area committee have agreed the plan to use £40,000 Well-Being Fund Commission cash to act as a lever for the Landfill Tax Funds.
