Staff show they have a heart of gold!

A Rugby family whose home was destroyed by fire was able to celebrate Christmas this year thanks to the kind donations from staff at Warwickshire County Council, Rugby FM and firefighters from Rugby Fire Station.

The Children, Laura French, 16, Craig French, 14, Jay French 12, and Ross French, eight managed to escape the fire at their home on Lytham Road, Overslade on Wednesday 7 December. The family were woken by a smoke alarm at around 5am. The mother, Sue French, had to be rescued by Firefighters and was taken to hospital. She is now doing well and hopes to be out of hospital in the New Year.

The presents were delivered to the children at Rugby Fire Station just before Christmas. As well as receiving presents they were also able to say a special thankyou to the firefighters who saved their life.
Leading Firefighter, Ben Harrison, who attended the incident said: “We were really pleased to have been able to raise so much money.  The family have been through a very traumatic event and we hope that this gift will help them to enjoy their Christmas.”

Brett Morris on White Watch raised £150 of the money donated by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service at a black tie evening held by the hospital trust.

Laura said: “We would like to say a really big thankyou for all of your lovely gifts, it will make a real difference to our Christmas. We would like to say special thanks to the firefighters who saved our mums life, to staff at Warwickshire County Council, Rugby FM and all of their listeners, the Post Office and the Hospital Trust.”
