Celebrate safely this Eid Al-Adha
Not heeding the fire safety message this Eid Al-Adha could be a matter of life and death Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service warned today.
County Fire Officer, William Brown said: “During the Eid Al-Adha period people spend more time at home or at the mosque, and whilst people are relaxing with friends and family, everyday fire risks can increase. People are more likely to be distracted and therefore vulnerable to accidental fires.
By taking a few simple steps fire risks can be reduced around the home and everybody can celebrate safely the Festival of Eid Al-Adha".
· You should always fit a working smoke alarm on each floor level of your home. If you are buying a new smoke alarm consider a 10-year alarm, which will require less frequent battery changes. But don’t forget that all types of alarms need to be tested once a week.
· You should never leave cooking unattended. When cooking deep-fried food, dry it before you put it in the hot oil. Never fill the pan more than one third full of oil. If the oil starts to smoke, turn off the heat and leave the pan to cool. Never throw water over the pan.
· When cooking, take great care with long hair and clothing. Both are very flammable.
· Make sure that you put out candles and cigarettes properly.
· · Turn off and unplug all electrical appliances unless they are designed to be left on - like your freezer or VCR for example.
· Avoid overloading electrical sockets, Try to remember, one plug - one socket. If you must have more plugs connected always use a fused adaptor.
