TV slot for County Record Office
Warwickshire County Record Office took a star role recently in the ITV television programme, Neighbours from Hell.
Extracts from a valuable Inclosure Award were used to explain the background to a long running dispute in Aston Cantlow which has gone through the courts, reaching as far as the House of Lords.
Inclusure Awards dating back to the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries allotted some responsibility for church maintenance to certain local landowners, referred to as Lay Rectors. Churchwardens from the parish church in Aston Cantlow asked the owners of nearby Glebe Farm, as Lay Rectors, for a contribution to the considerable repairs needed on the church.
Senior Archivist, Hilary Peck, said: “The television company interviewed all parties concerned and came to the Record Office to film the document and myself reading out the relevant part and explaining the content and context. The case is as yet still unresolved.”
