Welcome to Woodlands School!
The name of the new special school serving North Warwickshire has been chosen.
Woodlands School will open in April, bringing together children from Blythe and Sparrowdale Schools.
The school will initially be based on the two existing sites, in Coleshill and Grendon, Atherstone.
Building work is well underway at the Blythe School to expand and improve the current facilities and over time the schools will merge onto a single site.
Gill Simpson, previously Headteacher at Blythe School, has been appointed Headteacher of Woodlands School and is busy getting everything in place for its opening.
The name was chosen by a process that involved children from both schools making suggestions. A shortlist was drawn up by the school councils for the governors to make the final decision.
They arrived at the name Woodlands by researching ancient maps of the area and seeing that the land now occupied by the school in Packington Lane was marked as ‘woodland’.
Mrs Simpson said: “Now we have a name for the new school it makes its opening seem much closer and gives everyone something to focus on.
“The building work is carrying on apace. The first floor of the new building is now visible and new changes are appearing every day.”
