Disasters in Action!

Experts in handling emergencies from across Warwickshire have today attended a seminar to share the experiences of colleagues from across the country, who have been involved in recent major emergencies.

Warwickshire County Council’s Emergency Planning Unit has staged the event with more than 125 people attending including senior representatives from local authorities, the emergency services and health.

The Seminar included key speakers covering national and international disasters such as the London Bombings, the flooding at Boscastle, the South East Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.

Jeremy Lee, Manager of Warwickshire County Council’s Emergency Planning Unit said: “Events like this are so important to the work that we do.  The event is an ideal forum at which to learn the lessons from other people’s experiences, but also provide an opportunity for emergency response agencies across Warwickshire to reflect on their own emergency procedures."

Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety said: ”I am particularly pleased to see so many senior representatives from all our partner agencies attending the event. This demonstrates the excellent working relationships we have developed in Warwickshire between all those who would be involved in responding to any major emergency and has led to us having effective, well practiced and tested arrangements in place.”
