Caroline Sampson, Head of the Archive Service said: “The BBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ television series has proved very popular. It shows how with a little bit of detective work anyone’s family history can really come to life. We would be delighted if the television series encouraged newcomers to come along to the record office and join the many thousands who have successfully delved into their past using the historic records we hold. We hold all the popular sources for family history, from Church of England parish registers to census returns, the GRO indexes and much, much more.”
No appointment is necessary to use the record office, but do bring along ID to obtain a reader’s ticket.
