Harriet is rewarded for bravery
A three-year-old girl who saved her mums life is being rewarded for her bravery this week by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Harriet Gwinnett, saved the life of her mum by activating the ‘Help on Call’ alarm (which was installed in her home by WFRS), after her mum had a serious epileptic fit.
Control operator, Clare Cowley who took the call said:
“Initially all I could hear was a child crying saying her mummy wasn’t moving. After calming her down I got her to tell me her name and reassured her that the ambulance was on its way.
"Whilst waiting for the ambulance I managed to get hold of the next-door neighbour, Mr Perkins who immediately went to Harriet’s assistance. She was very brave throughout the incident, bearing in mind that she is only three years old, it’s amazing really.”
Harriet, from Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, along with her mother Sandra and the next-door neighbours Mr and Mrs Perkins, has been invited to Leamington Fire Station on Friday 27 January at 2.30pm to a presentation event to mark her bravery. The assistant Chief Fire Officer, Glen Ranger will be presenting Harriet with some presents and Blaze, the brigade’s mascot bear.
Sandra Gwinnett said:
“I’m really proud of Harriet. I’m not too sure how she knew how to use the emergency button, but she did and she saved my life. She is a very special little girl. I would like to say a special thankyou to my neighbours, Mr and Mrs Perkins, who looked after Harriet whilst I was taken to hospital. I don’t know what I would have done without them.”
