Weaving willow magic at St Nicolas Primary
Pupils from St Nicolas Primary School in Nuneaton have been weaving a little bit of magic this week in the form of a willow sculpture for the school grounds.
Helped by the Environmental Design team at Warwickshire County Council, the pupils have had fun learning how to weave willow into a piece of art that will provide not only an important habitat for wildlife but also a space for creative play.
Chris Edwards, Head teacher of St Nicolas Primary, said: "The willow sculpture is a fantastic opportunity for our children to enjoy a natural and sustainable piece of artwork close at hand. It enhances our school environment appropriately, in a creative and natural way and we look forward to it becoming an integral part of our school".
Avril Smolders, Principle Landscape Architect with the County Council’s Environmental Design team, added: "It’s good to create a living space for children to play; a place which changes with the seasons and can help pupils learn to be at one with nature.”
