Hundreds sign up for Ash Green project
A scheme to paint the whole of a school building in a day has attracted hundreds of volunteers in less than a week.
Members of the community and church groups in Ash Green have rushed to get involved with The One Project.
The scheme will see a team of recruits go into Ash Green School on 10 April to prepare the building for its makeover.
And on a single day – Saturday 15 April – hundreds of people from the area will come into the school to paint every room.
Almost 300 people have already agreed to get involved in the project, which is being organised by a local businessman.
But such is the scale of the task that more people are needed – and it’s not too late to get involved.
Headteacher Graham Tyrer said: “We all knew that this project was exciting but we have been amazed by the amount of enthusiasm it has already generated. The scale of the task that we are taking on is a big one, but we are confident of meeting the challenge. I am delighted that so many people want to put something back into the school and the organisers are looking forward to signing up more volunteers.”
Stella Blackmore, Warwickshire County Council’s Deputy County Education Officer, said: "This is a really exciting initiative which shows how much the local community now feels a part of the school. Ash Green School is going from strength to strength. The Federation with Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College, the hard work of governors, staff and students, and the fantastic support of parents have made a real difference. When the painting is completed this will be a tremendous boost to the ‘feel good factor’ which is already evident. It’s a marvellous way to celebrate the school’s recent and continuing success."
Kings Community Church in Bedworth has offered to help co-ordinate the volunteers on 024 7649 4320. Details about the project are available at http://www.kingscc.co.uk
