New library service for Hartshill
Hartshill is to have a brand new library service in by the summer of 2006.
In an innovative partnership agreement, Warwickshire Library and Information Service is opening a library in the community buildings of Holy Trinity Church in Hartshill.
As part of Warwickshire County Council’s commitment to ensuring all residents have access to high quality library services, Hartshill will see the first community based library pilot to be delivered in the county.
Hartshill has been provided for by a trailer library but is currently served by a mobile library. The proposals are a major step forward in fulfilling the community’s very strong desire to have a permanent library, which was shown in a community consultation published in May 2004.
This new facility will offer more services than previously available particularly with public access to the internet. A consultation will take place with local residents about opening hours and other aspects of the service.
County Councillor Richard Grant, Hartshill’s local member said: “I am pleased to see the proposals for the new library provision for Hartshill. I encourage residents to make comments on the proposal, either to myself or to county council officers. We need to know what the public really thinks. Any suggestions about the new community facility will be welcomed and taken into account.”
David Hinds, Church Warden for the Holy Trinity Church in Hartshill said: “We are delighted to be able to offer the premises and make this library a reality for the people of Hartshill. The church is an ideal location for this community provision and the library service will be a welcome addition to our busy community facility.”
John Randle, Chair of Hartshill Parish Council, said: “There is unanimous approval for the new library in the parish. A permanent library was the major request from residents in our parish consultation and so this is a very positive move for the whole village. We are very much looking forward to the new facility.”
