County kids strike a chord
Turn the amps up to 11. Warwickshire’s young monsters of rock are getting ready to roll.
A countywide rock band is being put together and would-be rock gods are going to battle it out to form Warwickshire’s first supergroup.
The auditions for the band are taking part in each district from next week. Once selected the members will select its name.
Those in Warwick district will be laying down their claim for a spot on the band on Monday 20 February at Kenilworth School. Stratford’s finest will be plugging in on Tuesday 21 February at King Edward School in Stratford, while Rugby’s rockers will be cranking it up on 27 February at Avon Valley School. All auditions take place between 5pm and 7pm.
They are being run by Warwickshire County Council’s County Music Service, who want to find two keyboards players, two guitarists, a drummer, bassist and singer for the new group.
The band will be put together from all over Warwickshire and will rehearse throughout the spring ready for a number of live shows.
One of the tasks the band will have will be to support the contestants in this year’s Teen Idol training programme, which sees teenagers perform in a series of concerts.
Organiser Mike Roberts said: “We have choirs and ensembles, orchestras and brass bands, so why not have a county rock band? Let’s have some real noise in the county. There are students all over the county with talent and we want to bring the best of it together.”
The group is open to musicians aged between 13 and 18, and is not suitable for beginners. More information is available from Mike on 07855 544685.
