Give a loved one a break this Valentine’s

Carers, the unsung heroes of society in providing hours and hours of care for loved ones, are being offered the chance for a well-earned break with the launch of a new service.

Warwickshire County Council Social Services has joined with Allied Healthcare to launch the `In Your Place’ scheme. This aims to give carers the chance to have evening or overnight breaks, whether it is a planned event, or in a crisis.

Carer Keith Duckitt from Haseley, Warwick, said: `` There was a huge shift for me as my caring role went from part-time to a full-time role. I have been extremely grateful for the support and guidance from Warwickshire Social Services and the local carers associations in steering me towards the support available.

``This new service will be of tremendous value to an awful lot of carers, who can feel quite afraid and alone.’’

The service will be available seven days a week, throughout the year, including all public holidays. Carers will be referred to the service following a carers’ assessment. For more details on the carers’ assessment contact 01926 410410.

There are about 53,000 people in Warwickshire providing a caring role, yet only a few hundred seek any kind of help.
