Entrance features designed for Shipston-on-Stour

Residents in Shipston-on-Stour are invited to attend an exhibition this weekend to give their views on design proposals for two new entrance features for the town gateways.

The design exhibition will be held in Townsend Hall, Sheep Street, Shipston, on Saturday 25th February from 10.30am - 1.30pm. Visitors are welcome anytime.

Stour Power, the local market town regeneration team, Stratford District Council and Warwickshire County Council, with funding from Shipston Town Council have set up the partnership project and have commissioned professional artist, Christopher Townsend, to draw up design proposals for the entrance features.

The designs have been themed on characteristics of the local landscape and townscape.  On Saturday, people will have the chance to choose their favorite design(s), which will then be used to create two entrance features, one of which will be located on Darlingscote Road and the other on the Stratford Road.entrance to the town.

Christopher Townsend, professional artist, said: "I’m really excited to be involved in this project that will create a unique and pioneering piece of art work that welcomes you to the town.  Shipston-on-Stour has provided a wealth of inspiration to draw from – its architecture, landscape, businesses and people are colourful, rich and varied.”

Susan Lewis, Community Development Officer for Stour Power, added: “We are grateful to the County Arts Fund for providing £7,000 of funding towards this project, which was a welcome addition to the Stour Power and Town Council funding.  The support of our partners on this project is critical to its success.  This project gives us the opportunity to build a unique identity based on the town’s heritage and character.  It also helps address the safety issues of encouraging traffic to slow down as it enters the town.”
