Special schools dance festival
Pupils from every special school in Warwickshire will be setting off on a fascinating journey next week.
They will be performing at the Warwickshire Special Schools Dance Festival at Butterworth Hall, at Warwick University’s Arts Centre.
It’s the third annual Festival for Special School Dance in Warwickshire, and plans are being discussed with the Arts Council to widen it to other groups and make it into a regional event in the future.
The theme for the day is ‘journeys’. Schools have been preparing the performance as part of their dance lessons, and have been working with professional dance artists from the Midlands and London.
The event is organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Arts Zone. Director Rex Pogson said: “I’m delighted all the county’s special schools are booked to send a group to this event. The 2004 and 2005 Festivals were two of the high spots of recent years – I’m sure this one will be great as well.
“The children and young people find this an immensely enjoyable day and relish the chance to perform at such a prestigious venue. They gain a lot from working with professionals. In addition to the event we co-ordinate meetings for teachers from all the schools to consult, exchange ideas and plan
“We are inviting teachers and artists with an interest in dance work for special needs across the sub-region and beyond as we have ambitious plans to extend this innovative and enjoyable festival beyond Warwickshire’s boundaries.”
