Get-Set & Go Bus Service
Unsociable shift hours should no longer prove a stumbling block for people wanting to get back to work thanks to a new scheme from Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT).
A unique new bus service, opened at the beginning of this year, has been wheeled out across Nuneaton and Bedworth to give the residents a chance to get to work in spite of the trend towards un-sociable shift patterns.
Car-Go-Bus Community Transport are going to be running the ‘Get-Set & Go’ project, which will provide a shuttle service to and from Camp Hill and Bedworth Heath to four major industrial sites.
Workers who want hop on board the bus, which takes them to Bermuda Park/Industrial Estate, Prologis Park, Arena Park and Bayton Road Industrial Estate, will be able to call a week in advance when they know their shift patterns to book their seat on the bus.
The cost to use the service will not break the bank either, as the fares are no higher than ordinary bus services in Warwickshire: £2 return for a short hop and £3 return for a longer trip.
Making it easier for shift workers to get to and from work has been one of the major reasons that WCC’s Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods team has backed the scheme.
Maxine McDermott, Warwickshire County Council’s Transport Officer for North Warwickshire said: “Transport is a real problem for people working early or late shift patterns and we are really pleased to be able to now offer this service.”
Mike Brookes, Manager of Car-Go-Bus said: “The great thing about Get-Set & Go is that it is a response to people’s needs, which change from week to week. The first stage of the scheme will serve as a pilot project and if it is success, we hope to expand it to other employers."
