Children get a lesson in fire safety
Children from Hurley Primary School have been learning about fire safety as part of Warwickshire’s Fire and Rescue Services schools programme.
The children in years one and five were visited by firefighters from Coleshill, who have be teaching them about the importance of fire safety in the home. The children also had hands on experience of how to test a smoke alarm, a lesson in the dangers of playing with matches, a crash course in how to stop, drop and roll and a talk about how to plan escape routes in both the home and at school.
Firefighter, Tim Watson said:
“The main aim of the sessions is to teach the children about basic fire safety highlighting key safety messages such as ‘Never Play With Matches’. The sessions also provide the perfect opportunity for the children to get hands on experience at making 999 calls and working together to plan how they would get out of their school or home should there be a fire.”
Headteacher of Hurley Primary School, Mr Morgans said:
"This is a really great opportunity for the children to learn more about the importance of fire safety. The course is very hands on, which means that the children are able to relate their learning experience to both the home and school environment. They are also able to see that playing with matches or making hoax calls can costs lives.“
