A plethora of patchwork
The fabric of history has been stitched together for all to enjoy at a brand new exhibition celebrating 21 years of a talented and skilled crafts group from Warwickshire.
The exhibition of work from the Forest Of Arden Quilters will be open until Friday 21 April and is free to view at Warwickshire Museum, Warwick. The display shows quilts of every type, using many different techniques, including king size bed quilts, wall hangings, cot quilts and bags and boxes.
Throughout the exhibition, members of the group will be demonstrating and talking to visitors in the gallery, please phone the museum on 01926 412500 to check if there is a demonstration on a particular day.
The quilting group have been quite prolific over the years and have made children’s clothes for Oxfam, quilted wall hangings for the Helen Leys Centre, the Oncology Day Centre at Walsgrave Hospital and small quilts for the Neo-natal Unit also at the Walsgrave Hospital.
They have also made charity bags for “Teddies for Tragedy”, and this last year a quilt and cushions were raffled to raise money for Myton Hospice.
The group are a mixture of beginners and experienced and talented quilters that meet twice a month for sewing mornings at each other’s homes and evening meetings at Kenilworth Methodist Church Hall. They share ideas, techniques, equipment and materials and have a speaker twice a year, organise workshops and special sewing days.
Emma House from Warwickshire Museum said: “The group show off their incredible skills in their work, which is intricate and requires dexterity and accuracy. The museum’s gallery is alive with colour and pattern – come in and cheer up your day!”
