Open a new GATEway to learning
A range of new learning opportunities are opening up in Leamington at a new community training centre.
The GATEway facility at Bath Place Community Venture in south Leamington is being opened next week and everyone is invited to come and look at what’s on offer. The refurbished room has been developed by the Venture in partnership with Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Learning Service.
As well as improving skills on the computer, there will be numeracy, literacy and managing money courses, ‘learn and play together’ sessions for parents and children and the chance to take a food hygiene certificate. There will also be a ‘Who do you think you are?’ family history group.
Details of all the courses will be on show at an open day, which will run from 10am on 24 March, with the official opening at 3pm by local MP James Plaskitt.
“We have ten computers in GATEway and we will run ‘computers for the terrified’ courses that will give people a very gentle introduction to the world of ICT,” said Adult and Community Learning Manager Yvonne Walkey.
“Then we will go on to give people the chance to develop their skills with more detailed courses.
“This is a fantastic new facility that will see the benefit of working with a community organisation such as Bath Place, who will be running a number of courses of their own, and we look forward to welcoming people from the community at the open day.”
