Abbots Farm children plan their escape
Children from Abbots Farm Junior School will be getting a lesson in fire safety this week as part of Warwickshire’s Fire and Rescue Services schools programme.
Firefighters from Rugby will be visiting the school promoting key fire safety messages to children in year five. During the lesson the children will be learning about the importance of fire safety and prevention. They will also get hands on experience of how to make a 999 call, a lesson in the risk and causes of fire and how to plan escape routes in both the home and at school.
Sub Officer, Paul Hayward, said:
“The main aim of the course is to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of fire safety in both the home and at school. The sessions are very hands on and provide essential experience of the dangers of making hoax calls and working together to plan how they would get out of their school or home should there be a fire.”
Headteacher, John Alexander said:
“We are really pleased that the children are able to develop their fire safety skills through the schools programme. Lessons like this help the children learn life saving skills, which can be adapted to both the home and school environment.”
