Safer Sunday shopping for Nuneaton

Increased shopping demand and more people visiting Nuneaton town centre on a Sunday is to see the operation of the automatic rising bollards expanded to seven days a week.

The automatic rising bollards were introduced in Nuneaton town centre during April of last year to prevent vehicles entering the pedestrianised zone between 10am and 4pm Mon–Sat.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Environmental Services, said: ``The operation of these bollards has proved to be extremely successful, making Nuneaton town centre a safer and more pleasant place to shop.’’

In light of the Rope Walk Shopping Centre trading 7 days a week, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council recognised the need for the bollards to be in operation on a Sunday. Warwickshire County Council was asked to make the necessary changes.

The automatic rising bollards in Nuneaton will become operational on Monday to Sunday as from Monday 3 April 2006.
