Most services will continue despite strike action
Warwickshire County Council is continuing to make preparations for the strike which has been called for tomorrow.
This is a national dispute about proposed changes to the Pensions Scheme for local government employees across the country.
The council’s priority will be to do as much as possible to protect services during the day, and particularly services to vulnerable service users. Cover and contingency arrangements are currently being put in place across all the council’s main service areas.
Reuben Bergman, Deputy Head of Human Resources, said: “It is inevitable that there will be some disruption on the day and we would ask customer and services users to bear with us in relation to any inconvenience experienced.
“Around 25 per cent of our non-teaching workforce was balloted in respect of this action. We are, however, confident that the majority of services will remain unaffected. We are also working closely with the trades unions to ensure that the day is managed sensibly.
“Whilst it is expected that many of our schools will be open as normal on the day parents are advised to visit our school closures website on http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures to check the situation in relation to local schools.
“Arrangements will be put in place to ensure that home care provision is maintained during the day and elderly persons homes are unaffected. Every effort will also be made to notify people who depend on day care services, and any other individual services, if their provision will be disrupted.”
A number of social education centres and day care centres will be closed. Those who use these centres have been advised accordingly.
Council reception points will be open as normal. No library closures are currently planned, although there are some changes to service.
· One-stop shop services at Kenilworth Library will not operate, although library service will not be affected
· The Bounce and Rhyme session at Bedworth Library has been cancelled
· Lillington Library will close early at 5.30 pm
· Atherstone Library may close at 5.00 pm
General information about service disruption will be updated on the day of action on the county council website http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk. For specific information about school closures please check the county council website: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures. Currently, 27 are confirmed as closing though this number could change.
The council’s switchboard will be open as usual to receive and direct calls as required on 01926 410410.
