What a wheelie good idea!
When it’s not collection day, keep me secure and put me away – that’s the message being stuck to residents wheelie bins in Nuneaton this week, as part of a Safer Communities Partnership (SCP) initiative.
Due to the increase in bin fires, the SCP are working together to drive down the risk of bins being set alight by simply asking residents to put them in a safe place after they have been emptied.
Other advice includes asking resident to keep their bin away from the house, windows and doors, as fire spreads and to report suspicious behaviour relating to bin fires to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
Area Risk Officer, Mark Rose said: “Last year Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service attended 898 refuse container fires. 407 of these fires were in Nuneaton and Bedworth. We feel that by asking people to take simple steps such as putting their bins away after collection day could help to reduce the number of fires and make Nuneaton and Bedworth a safer place to live. “
