Army of volunteers really is an army!
When you’ve got an entire school to paint in a day, it’s time to call in the armed and emergency services.
That’s what volunteers co-ordinating a project to redecorate Ash Green School have done.
Members of the community, school and local churches will be joined by a team from the Army at Bramcote Barracks, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service in Bedworth and the Royal Navy.
The number of volunteers is now over 500 amounting to almost 1,100 working days pledged in total by people in Ash Green and Bedworth.
The project starts on April 10, with preparation work being undertaken for a week to prepare the walls and ceilings for the big day on April 15.
That’s when the masses will come in armed with their paintbrushes to give Ash Green School a new look.
Ralph Coleman, who is helping to co-ordinate the project, said: “We have been steadily recruiting volunteers since we announced this project and to have teams from the army and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue is another big boost.
“The project has been backed very generously by local businesses too, who have helped with providing the materials needed for every aspect of the task ahead.”
Businesses supporting the project include: Godiva Scaffold, Able Scaffold, Community Repaint, Johnstone Paints, Zodiak Designs, Swan Hosiery, Starbucks, Tesco, 3M, Hire Shop, Montague Meyer, Tom White Skips, Bookers Cash & Carry, ESPO, Viking Direct, L G Harris, Bacon Bros (Paints) Nuneaton, Advantia, B & Q, Dobbies, Power Plant, Lyreco have between them supplied paint, carpets, scaffolding, skips, power tools, decorating materials to refreshments.
Ralp added: “In particular we would like to thank Starbucks, who are not only providing resources but are looking to provide some volunteers and also gave us the opportunity to put a stand in their coffee shop for a day so that we could give out leaflets and let people know about the project. 3M have provided a substantial amount of materials both through their Atherstone facility but also through the depot at Bedford.”
