Family history for everyone

Following the popularity of tracing your ancestors, would-be family history detectives now have another tool to help them research.

Prompted by success of the BBC family history series “Who do you think you are?” and the family history coverage on GMTV, the county libraries and archive service have acquired a subscription to the popular genealogy website Ancestry.com.
This site contains many useful databases to help with your family history research, including national census returns from 1851 to 1901 and indexes to birth, marriages and deaths from 1837 to 2000.

Rob Eyre, Archivist at Warwickshire County Council’s County Record Office said: “The website provides our users with free access to one of the most important resources for genealogy currently available on the net. You can visit any of the libraries within the county or the County Record Office to access the site.”

The website builds on the many local and family history resources provided by the county’s network of libraries and archive service.

Please contact your local library or the County Record Office in Warwick for further details. Visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries or http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/countyrecordoffice for contact details, details of how to access the database and information about other services.
