Lollipops get licked into shape
School crossing patrols are getting licked into shape next week at a special training seminar.
The seminar for `lollipops’ will be held on Tuesday at the Royal Navy Club, Adelaide Road, Leamington Spa.
It has been organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit and is an important feature in the road safety calendar as it gives the patrols the opportunity to discuss mutual issues and hear invited guests speak on relevant subjects.
It also gives them the chance to review activities such as the recent `Endangered Species’ recruitment drive and the `I STOP do you?’ campaign.
Stan Milewski, Senior Road Safety Officer, said: “We have 92 school crossing patrols in Warwickshire who do a marvellous job – in all weathers and in some very dangerous locations. Working on their own, the seminars give patrols the opportunity to get together once a year to discuss any problems they may have and meet up with old friends.”
The `Endangered Species’ campaign was launched in April 05 as an unusual way to recruit new members to the School Crossing Patrol Service.
The `I STOP, do you?’ campaign was launched in March 06 to remind drivers to stop when instructed to do so by School Crossing Patrols.
Accidents in Warwickshire can be combated by a variety of means; education and training, publicity, engineering measures and enforcement. We believe the most effective approach is an integrated one so that different methods and partnership working are used together wherever possible.
