Reasons to celebrate!

Join in with the heritage transport community of Warwickshire and Coventry to celebrate their proud and varied history of transport and travel. During May the characters of Phileas Fogg and Passepartout will be travelling Around Warwickshire in 20 Ways as part of the nationally organised Museums and Galleries Month.

They will drop in to many of heritage sites and museums around the county and take part in family events and listen to people’s stories and recollections.

The month kicks off on Saturday 29 April at Coventry’s own spectacular Transport Museum, in Millennium Place. The museum has recently undergone a £6.9 million redevelopment with 3 new galleries as well as superb new facilities for education and research.

Phileas Fogg and his companion will take a tour of the town in one of the museum’s marvellous vehicles, arriving in Millennium Place at 12.30.  Taking a tour of the new galleries Phileas will meticulously plan his forthcoming tour around the county and get to know the famous names of local manufacturers; From Daimler and Starley to Riley and Triumph.

Come and join the pair in a free family friendly activity of making mini hot air balloons.  At 2.15 Phileas will officially open the month by releasing all the balloons from the forecourt of museum. Entry to the museum is free.

Glynis Powell, Community Museums Officer for Warwickshire and Coventry, Warwickshire County Council said
“As well as visiting places every weekend during May the pair will be collecting stories and memories, both on paper and online. Come along and meet them, write down your stories, take part in the activities and wave as they set off around Warwickshire in an historic 1920’s Midland Red excursion charabanc, from Wheels Museum of Transport, Nuneaton.”

If you have a story to tell already, you can email it to transportsofdelight@warwickshire.gov.uk   it will be put up on the website soon.
Throughout the month the pair can be spotted, mainly at weekends arriving at events around the county.  Look out for news of events on http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/20ways and on http://www.bbc.co.uk/coventry  or listen out on local radio.
