Campion pupils dance into the limelight
Pupils from Campion School will be appearing on the silver screen this week when a film that they produced and performed in is premiered.
Ten students from year nine spent part of their Easter holidays working with professional dancer Oliver Scott of Mercurial Dance and film expert Dominic Breadmore.
They have shot a five minute film as part of a project called ‘Power and Passion’ that tells a story, through dance, of an outsider who has something to return to a group of youngsters.
Filming for the project, which was backed by Warwickshire County Council and First Light Films – a body which supports young people’s project – took place in the Royal Priors Shopping Centre and at Jephson Gardens.
The film will shown to the young people who made it, their family and friends at the Royal Spa Centre on Thursday 4 May, and could be shown at film festivals around the country during the summer.
Students from Stratford College were also involved as part of their BTEC studies.
Oliver said: “We create exciting dance and film projects for young people. It was great to see how the group worked together to make this film. There was a real sense of achievement."
Stella Bolitho, Warwickshire County Council Extended Learning manager, added: “This was a project outside the normal school curriculum that allowed the students to experience dance and also film their efforts in a professional way. They should all be really proud of their involvement and hopefully they will find it inspiring for future work, in and out of school.”
