Daniel’s design marks new era for healthy schools

Five Warwickshire pupils have won prizes for designing a new logo for a scheme that promotes healthy schools.

A winner from each area of the county was chosen for the competition aimed at creating a new design for the Warwickshire Health Promoting School Scheme.  The competition was sponsored by the Medical Research Fund– a fund which promotes research between academics and hospitals.

The scheme gives schools a framework to achieve four goals that have been set by the government: personal, social and health education; healthy eating; physical activity; and emotional well-being. Schools take on a number of activities and can achieve a bronze, silver or gold award, depending on how many they complete.

The five lucky winners will be presented with a £10 book token, some art materials and a cheque for £125 for their school.  The prize ceremony will be part of the Warwickshire Healthy Schools County Celebration for accredited schools in June.  This event is also to be hosted by the Medical Research Fund.

The area winners are:
Anna Hart, aged 13, Studley High School
Tom Rhodes, aged ten, Coleshill Primary School
Luke Jenkinson, aged ten, Binley Woods Primary School
Connor Singleton, aged ten, Our Lady & St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, Leamington
Daniel Williamson, aged seven, St Michael’s Primary School, Bedworth

Daniel’s design was selected as the overall winner and it has been used as the basis for the new logo, which will mark the recent changes in the scheme that help support Warwickshire schools to achieve the new national Healthy School Status criteria.

Mindy Chillery of Warwickshire Health Promoting School Scheme said: “We were really pleased with all the entries. The area winners all did really well to communicate so much in their designs and we were delighted with Daniel’s entry in particular – it is bright and fun and simple.  Just the sort of image we are looking for.”
