Council Achieves International Standard

An award for environmental excellence has been achieved by Warwickshire County Council.

The implementation of ‘ISO14001’, an international standard for organisations, means the Council is now recognised as being able to demonstrate its commitment to being environmental responsible.  The next three years will see all directorates within the County Council becoming accredited.

Councillor Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for Environment said “The County Council is delighted to receive recognition of its environmental achievements.  It has been no easy task to achieve this standard.  For the last fourteen months everyone has been working hard to make sure services and other council activities are managed in an environmentally sound way.  The standard means the council is now recognised for proactively managing its impacts on the environment, and implementing sustainable activities through its departments.

John Deegan, Strategic Director for Environment and Economy said
“Although we were already addressing environmental issues, it is pleasing to know we have been able to develop this work to a very high standard, and in doing so achieve this international standard.  It also shows that we can now compare ourselves alongside other industries and the excellent work they are doing.  To help us achieve this standard, Andy McDarmaid, Environmental Systems Manager, came to us from industry to spearhead the successful operation.  With his expertise and the support of everyone involved, we are able to demonstrate effective management of resources”.

Warwickshire County Council is committed to providing excellence, and this achievement demonstrates that action really is the key to success.
