Bookstart Reunited

Wellesbourne Library is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Bookstart with two events on Wednesday 17 May.

Bookstart is a national programme working with Warwickshire Libraries to give a free pack of books to babies. It started in 1996 as a pilot called Babies need Books.

The programme aims to promote a lifelong love of books by encouraging a love of books in children from as early an age as possible.

There are two events at the library, a Bounce and Rhyme session at 2.15pm for under fives then a party for 10 year olds takes place at 4.00pm. Entrance to this event is limited and strictly by ticket only. Tickets are free and must be collected in advance from Wellesbourne Library. At the event all children will get a £5 Book Token in exchange for their ticket.

Sandy Miller, Bookstart Co-ordinator, said
“We are thrilled to have reached ten years of Bookstart. The events at the library will give the chance for all children who have received book packs in that first year to be to be reunited and join our celebrations.”
