Changes to on-street parking charges in Stratford

Changes to the charges for on-street parking in Stratford upon Avon are coming into effect on Monday 15 May.

In particular, the free parking for 20 minutes in Stratford-upon-Avon’s decriminalised zone is being replaced with a 30-minute 20p nominal charge.

The change was agreed at a meeting of Stratford Area Committee in March and Cllr George Atkinson, Chairman of the Area Committee, explained why: “There have been a number of cases where people do not realise they need to put a ticket in their car because it is free. As a result they have received a fine.

“We feel the nominal 20p charge with the extension to 30 minutes is a way to ensure that more people buy a ticket and park legally."

Changes will also be made to the parking restrictions in many streets across Stratford, Henley in Arden and Southam. Shirley Reynolds, Team Leader in the Traffic Projects Group at Warwickshire County Council, said "All drivers should check the signs on the streets where they park to make sure that they know how long they can stay for."
