Filmmakers descend on Nuneaton
Filmmakers from all over the UK descended on Nuneaton to learn about High Definition filming and editing.
StormRider Films and Altered Images are two companies based at Warwickshire County Council’s Centenary Business Centre, and they joined forces to provide a day of information and practical advice on the new high definition (HD) television system, about to enter the home television and professional broadcast media.
The two companies staged a day of seminars on the benefits of HD, with Altered Images speaking as a UK leading expert in supplying and supporting both HD and standard definition cameras, post production equipment and broadcast requirements to clients across the UK.
StormRider Film’s new production centre at the Centenary Business Centre is being used as the base for Simon Cox’s new movie Kaleidoscope Man, already being hailed as the most ambitious independent UK sci-fi film ever.
The seminars saw the filmmakers able to experience exploding planets, nuclear war, laser battles and spectacular space wars, with chromakey and CGI, all in HD, which will feature in Kaleidoscope Man.
Using the in-house facilities the filmmakers were given demonstrations on HD cameras, lenses and HD post-production.
Local animators Screenburn demonstrated the latest HD animation techniques and how they have taken StormRider Films HD footage and turned it into the spectacular effects for the new film.
Centenary Business Centre in Nuneaton is managed by Warwickshire County Council and is specifically aimed at providing small businesses with premises in which they are able to grow and develop in a business environment.
The centre currently has a 97 per cent occupancy rate and has successfully assisted nine companies to establish themselves in Nuneaton during the last six months.
Paul Kerr, Centre Manager, said: “Both StormRider Films and Altered Images have demonstrated that by pooling your company’s expertise in such a competitive marketplace they were able to gain a significant marketing advantage.”
Warwickshire County Council is currently providing well-priced accommodation and support to more than 200 businesses across Warwickshire with a capital value of almost £40 million, and raising about £1 million turnover in the county.
Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “Many people are unaware of the work Warwickshire County Council undertakes behind the scenes to ensure the local economy flourishes and that new businesses and enterprises have the right opportunities.”
