Murder in the Library!

A body has been found in the Botany section of Nuneaton Library and residents are being called in to help uncover the mystery in an evening of murder, intrigue and suspense.

Library assistant Joy White is the victim of this heinous crime but who is the perpetrator? Was it Lisa Lilac, nurse and childhood friend of Joy? Was it Rory Black, local university student? Was it David Green, head librarian, or could it have been Cecily Grey, retired biology teacher?

Visitors to the library will be asked to bring their super sleuth skills to the library on Tuesday 6 June 2006 and help solve the crime.

The evening of crime fiction will be led by Ann Cleeves of Harrogate Crime-Writing Festival’s Reader-in-Residence. Tickets are £3 and are available from the library. Call 02476 384027 for more details.

This event is part of ‘Murder they Wrote’, a series of crime author events and mystery reads taking place across the county from 3 June until 17 June.

The programme includes another body in the library event at Rugby Library, and talks by author Margaret Murphy of the Murder Squad about the crime scene and forensics at Kenilworth and Southam Libraries.

All libraries will be handing out ‘Mystery Reads’ to customers, and staff will be on hand to help people choose what to read next and to help with information on the latest crime authors.

The programme is launched with a joint crime day organised between Warwickshire County Council and Atherstone Booktown on Saturday 3 June. The day will be launched in Atherstone Library by Councillor Anne Forwood and there will be events in bookshops, a Mini-mystery Writing Competition and a Murder Mystery Banquet.

Alison McKellar, Principal Librarian Reader and Stock Development said,
“Come along to the events in Atherstone and look out for other crime fiction events in libraries in the rest of the county. All the libraries will be promoting the ‘Mystery Reads’ in June so if you have not tried crime fiction before now is your chance.”
