Road safety route to fast food
A new environmentally friendly food delivery service using mountain bikes has benefited from hands-on cycle training sessions thanks to Warwickshire County Council Road Safety Unit.
Leamington-based food café ‘THE VEGGIETABLE’ @ Bath Place Community Venture, a not for profit social enterprise, has been serving great quality healthy vegetarian food for the last ten years. Recently the idea was developed to provide the meal service to a wider audience in the community, and so a delivery service using environmentally friendly transport was devised.
The delivery crew received special adult cycle training by experienced road safety professionals in order to build their confidence and teach them vital cycling tips when out on busy roads on their daily rounds.
Mike Holdsworth, Road Safety Officer and Cycle Instructor, said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the training and by the end of the session even the most experienced of the riders had learnt something new to keep them safe on the road.”
The half day course focused on cycle safety and clothing, cycle manoeuvres and an on the road practical session.
