Summer playscheme for deaf children

Children who are deaf living in Warwickshire can have some summer fun at a special playscheme.

The Warwickshire Deaf Children Playscheme is organised by Warwickshire County Council and is open to children aged between four and 11.

This year, the theme is Around the World, and there will be activities based on different countries each day.

There will also be horse riding, a soft play area, arts and crafts and trips to a theme park and a fire station.

The playscheme will run on 26 July and 2, 8, 16, 22 and 30 August and it will be held at Baddesley Youth Centre. It is open to children from all over Warwickshire, with places available in the first instance to deaf children. Any spare spots will then be allocated to their brothers and sisters, and then to hearing children of deaf parents.

Isabel Reid, of Warwickshire County Council’s Services to Deaf People said: “ Deaf children can quite often feel isolated during the summer holiday as they might not have the chance to play with other children. This playscheme is a chance for them to have lots of fun in a friendly environment.”
