Responding to parents' needs

Warwickshire County Council has responded to the concerns and views of parents and built a new pedestrian refuge on a busy Warwick road.

The refuge has been constructed on Banbury Road, Warwick, near the eastern junction with Bridge End.

Parents of pupils attending Warwick Preparatory School who wanted to walk to school with their children requested it. The parents said they found Banbury Road difficult to cross because of the amount and speed of traffic on this main route into Warwick.

The refuge was installed by the county council as part of its Safer Routes to Schools initiative, which aims to reduce the number of pupils travelling to school by car by encouraging them to use alternative forms of transport, such as walking.

The scheme will also help to reduce traffic speeds at this point and will benefit the many people who work at the Technology Park and walk into the town at lunchtime.
