Works mean temporary bus routes and stops in south Leamington

Bus travellers are being warned of changes to their service from Monday as works get underway to improve south Leamington.

The programme of Leamington Spa town centre improvements continues this summer with the news that Bath Street will be closed, along with a number of adjoining streets Smith Street, Abbotts Street, Regent Place and Gloucester Street for a period between 12th June and the 1st September 2006.

No bus services are disrupted during the first week from today, and all of the changes to services will come into effect from Monday, June 19.Last summer the closure of the Parade for several months disrupted bus travel for passengers and lead to the creation of temporary bus stops in Beauchamp Road.

This summer will again see disruption as several bus stops south of the bridge by the Pump Rooms will either be out of action or temporarily relocated.

The closure of Bath Street coupled with a one-way eastbound traffic order on Spencer Street between Lower Avenue and Victoria Terrace and a one-way northbound traffic order on Victoria Terrace between the Spencer Street / Bath Street junction and the mini roundabout at the junction with Newbold Terrace will effectively result in the following provisional arrangements:-

All southbound buses - the bus shelter stop at the Parish Church will be out of use for the duration of the Bath Street closure. Southbound buses will either turn right into Dormer Place or left into Newbold Terrace. Stagecoach have advised that ALL their buses except Service 66 will be turning right into Dormer Place. The 66 will be the only service turning left into Newbold Terrace. Buses turning right into Dormer Place will collect passengers from the War Memorial bus stop that fronts Euston Place. Buses turning left into Newbold Terrace will not collect passengers from this stop but from a temporary stop to be located in Newbold Terrace. The Dormer Place route will be Dormer Place, Adelaide Road, Avenue Road, Park Drive, Princes Drive. The Newbold Terrace route will be Newbold Terrace, Willes Road, St. Marys Road, Radford Road, High Street.

All northbound buses - the bus shelter stops Stands A & B opposite the Parish Church will also be out of use. These two stops will be temporarily relocated to Spencer Street between its junctions with Lower Avenue and Victoria Terrace .

Passengers requiring further information are requested to telephone Stagecoach on 01788 535555 or the County Council Public Transport Publicity Team on 01926 412987.
