Bedworth Resident Wins Composting Competition

An environmentally-friendly Bedworth family has clinched the £100 prize in Recycle for Warwickshire’s Recycle Now Home Composting `Golden Bin’ Competition.

Niall and Daniela McGee ordered a compost bin as part of Recycle for Warwickshire‘s Compost Awareness Week celebrations in May, and are now the lucky winners of £100 of garden centre vouchers courtesy of Recycle Now.

The brand new compost bin, complete with giant gold bow, was delivered to Mr and Mrs McGee at home by Cllr Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, from Warwickshire County Council.

“Mr and Mrs McGee will now be able to recycle up to one third of their household waste by home composting, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill.  What’s more, they will also get a great fertiliser for the garden, absolutely free,” said Cllr Heatley.

Compost Awareness Week was a great hit across the UK and inspired more than 30,000 people to buy a compost bin from their local council through the ‘Recycle Now’ scheme.

Those who missed out on this year’s Compost Awareness Week can still take advantage of cut-price compost bins available to buy throughout the year from Warwickshire County Council from as little as £6.00 including delivery.

Residents can log on to the website http://www.recyclenow.com/home_composting or call 0845 073 2001 to find out what compost bins are available in their area.  Alternatively, contact Warwickshire County Council on 01926 412458 to ask for a leaflet.
