Boost for Rokeby Junior School

Rokeby Junior School in Rugby is celebrating good news after Government inspectors decided it no longer needs to be in a category of concern.

The school was deemed to have ‘serious weaknesses’ by Ofsted in 2004, forcing it into a category where it needed extra help.

But after a period of support from Warwickshire County Council, inspectors were invited back to the school to see the improvements for themselves.

They said that “all aspects are rapidly improving, due to the good leadership team”. In particular, teaching, learning and behaviour were found to have improved.

Inspectors also praised the support given pupils by teaching assistants, and the way that any problems are identified early and dealt with.

Acting Headteacher Alison Stringer said: “It is fantastic news that we have been taken out of a category of concern. The children have responded extremely positively to the new systems we have introduced to promote high standards in their learning, good manners and behaviour. We are very pleased at the outcome which shows that we are now very well placed to meet the challenges of the future..”

Helen Whiter, Head of School Performance at Warwickshire County Council, said: “The weaknesses that caused inspectors concern two years ago have been tackled and the new leadership team has worked with the council to make the necessary changes. It is good news for everyone connected with the school and I am sure there is more to come.”
