Rangers trained to save lives

Countryside rangers could be on hand with life saving skills in the vital minutes before an ambulance arrives thanks to new specialist training.

Warwickshire County Council’s rangers have been working with Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance NHS Trust to undergo specialist training in Basic Life Support and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The unique training scheme has come about as a result of Andy Allen, Paramedic and Manager of Coventry and Warwickshire’s First Responder Scheme, contacting Country Parks Land Manager Keith Higginson to say that he was having trouble placing an AED supplied by the British Heart Foundation in the Kingsbury area of Warwickshire.

Keith said: “Kingsbury Water Park is now attracting almost 400,000 visitors per year and I thought it prudent to take up Andy’s offer of the AED.

“The training session we had recently at Kingsbury Water Park is the first step to providing this extended service to compliment the rangers’ existing First Aid at Work training.”
