Health review up for debate in Warwick
People living in Warwick district can find out the latest developments in the review of health services in the area.
Members of Warwickshire County Council’s Warwick Area Committee will be holding a special meeting on 11 July at 4pm at Shire Hall, Warwick, to consider the review of acute health services in Coventry and Warwickshire, currently being undertaken by the NHS.
County Councillors will be discussing the details of the review and examining its implications. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
The review has been held to allow the provision of health services to be altered to reflect the way that modern technology has changed the way certain conditions can be treated. For example, patients that might have had a long hospital stay after treatment in the past, can now be treated in a day. Test results and x-ray results can sent quicker, allowing diagnoses to be made quicker, and clinical services can also be delivered differently. However, the changes potentially have a significant impact on services delivered locally. It may be that some acute services are delivered from the new Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital based at the Walsgrave site in Coventry rather than from Warwick Hospital. However, the review is also proposing to provide some services locally using Community Hospitals or GP Practices. This will benefit those patients using these services in reducing the need to travel to hospital for treatment.
Cllr Sarah Boad, Chair of the Warwick Area Committee said: “A formal consultation process into the changes is running until September, and we are meeting to consider any comments we wish to feed into that process. Our role is to critically evaluate and comment on the local implications of these proposals. The views of the public are extremely important and we welcome members of the community to our meeting, where they will have the opportunity to ask questions about the proposals.”
If the members of the public have questions they wish to raise at the meeting, they should contact Peter Hunter at the County Council on 01926 736136 or by email: peterhunter@warwickshire.gov.uk
