Smoke alarms do save lives!
Firefighters in North Warwickshire are urging local residents to learn from recent incidents – that smoke alarms do save lives!
The lives of three local residents have been saved in recent fires because they had a working smoke alarm. The incidents, one at Monument View flats and one at Station Road in Polesworth happened in June. In both cases the occupants were able to get out of the property safely because they were given early warning by their smoke alarms.
Area risk officer, Scott Moultrie said:
“Nationally, you are twice as likely to die in a fire in your home if you do not have a working smoke alarm. This is a huge price to pay for failing to do something as simple as fit a smoke alarm. In both of the incidents we attended the occupants were given early warning and were able to get out of their home safely. If they did not have a smoke alarm, then there could have been a very different outcome.”
