Youth SACRE breaks new ground

Young people from all over Warwickshire have been hearing personal insights into different faiths.

Almost 200 pupils from Year 8 (aged 12 and 13) gathered at Myton School, Warwick for the first countywide event of its kind.

Fourteen schools from all over Warwickshire were represented at the event.

Representatives of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Humanism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism gave pupils a personal insight into their beliefs to further their understanding of religious education. Pupils were able to ask questions about different faiths and belief systems before working together to produce information leaflets on what they had learned.

One pupil commented, “I really enjoyed the day. It was a real change from a normal RE lesson.”

The event was supported by Warwickshire Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE). The group advises Warwickshire County Council on the RE syllabus used by all county and voluntary controlled schools, and other schools that choose to do so. SACRE also tackle issues related to religious education in Warwickshire schools.
