Winter gritters see summer action

A fleet of ten winter gritters are available for action in Warwickshire in a bid to prevent damage to the county’s highways during the current heatwave.

Yesterday there was a delivery of a further 20 tonnes of specialist `cracker dust’ to be spread on roads which start to show signs of damage as a result of the high temperatures.

The fine dust, delivered from Gloucestershire, was used at three locations yesterday on the A423 at Marton, the B4027 at Brinklow and the B4455 at Princethorpe. The gritters are out today on the A4189 Henley Road.

Tony Iwanikiw, County Highways Network Team Manager, said: “We have a fleet of ten gritters on standby for use around the county. At the moment they have only been needed on roads in high use that have recently undergone surface dressing.

“We will be monitoring the situation closely and send the gritters where they are needed.”
