Eight weeks of works for Nuneaton town centre
Roadworks are due to get underway at the end of this month to try and further improve traffic movements and pedestrian safety in Nuneaton town centre.
Funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) the works involve a number of safety modifications following completion of the contract for Phase 2.
The start of the works in the Back Street/Regent Street/Newtown Road/Leicester Road area of Nuneaton is programmed for late July 2006 (probably 31ST) and will last up to 8 weeks. It has been timed to coincide with the school summer break to minimise disruption.
To further minimise any disruption, the work will be carried out during off peak hours with the majority of the works being carried out during the weekend, early in the morning, late evening, or at night.
The original Phase 2 scheme was designed within the constraints of the existing highway land at the junction but Warwickshire County Council has subsequently managed to negotiate the dedication of land from the retail park to improve the kerb radius and improve the pedestrian safety.
Works to be carried out also include improving access into the rear of the retail park (Netto/Blockbuster), which will improve road safety when lorries access the retail park, a ‘yellow box’ road marking will be provided to help customers exiting the retail park.
Minor modifications will be made to the Newtown Road/Back Street traffic lights together with other small items work including signing and road markings. Work of this type will require the use of part time and full time temporary traffic signals together with lane closures to ensure safety of the work force.
The works have been timed to minimise inconvenience to the general public, road users and businesses of Nuneaton Town Centre but some delays and disruption are likely to be experienced by road users. Access to residential properties and local businesses will be maintained at all times.
